A President And A Gentleman

What Folks Are Saying & Thinking In Windham County

The Yahoo dashboard sees it like this: if the election were held today, Obama would hold 344 electoral votes with a poll average of 50.2%.

McCain would hold 167 electoral votes with a poll average of 42.1%.*

(*note: these numbers are changing rapidly and constantly.)

It may happen. One crisp Washington day in January, we may find ourselves transported back about 32 years. We may yet hear the crackling fires of hope and feel triumph in our hearts as his heels click on his way up to the podium. We may even see President Barack Obama walking through the streets of D.C., his lovely wife’s gloved hand in his. Obama reminded me of Carter during the Nashville debates when he called for personal responsibility in the energy crisis, suggesting many of the same things Carter had suggested to a listening public during a televised fireside chat from the White House more than 30 years ago. It was almost eerie, in a way.

We may have the privilege, once again, to behold a gentleman who wears his office regally and with dignity, as a president should. But only if we vote with conscience.
