Hungry Horse

Hungry Horse, originally uploaded by elefanterosado.

Don’t let the sad eyes fool you. She had a good breakfast. And a good lunch. This is Jem, my ten year old Canadian Cheval. She lives on the other side of the fence from my Arabian mare, Cleo, who is seven years her elder and several times more brutish when it comes to back-leg boxing. If you’ve ever seen two mares in season go at it, you know just what I mean. Cleo usually starts off the round but ends up the loser.

Despite the frequent domestic squabbles, these gals are the best of friends. Jem once crashed through the gate of the pipe panel in the left of the frame when I took Cleo out for a ride without her. That’s how much she hates to be alone. So now she has Princess The Pony for a companion when Cleo and I hit the trails. Princess is only ten hands and knows better than to get into a pissing match with her Sherman-tank-built friend here.
