Coney Island Dreamin’

Coney Island Dreamin’, originally uploaded by elefanterosado.

Someone once told me (because a professional photographer had told her) that photos shot at sunset are usually the work of rank amateurs (such as myself) trying to be clever and usually not succeeding. If this is true, then taking an ordinary black and white photo and enhancing it with sepia (in lowly iphoto, no less) to get more bang out of the buck must really be the height of egregious offense right?

Well, here are my excuses:

1) It wasn’t sunset. At least, not yet.

2) The sky had an amazing quality that I only saw once before in my life, and that was in India, at The Palace on The Lake. And I was too intimidated by this “rule” to try shooting it then. Wish I hadn’t been.

3) I make my own rules.

Coney Island, New York. Almost sunset.
