Ye Olde Taverne

Ye Olde Taverne, originally uploaded by elefanterosado.

I get a kick out of this sign, which reminds me a bit of the opening credits for the sitcom “Cheers.” Apparently The Old Tavern is somewhere where not only does “everybody know your name,” but where Monty Python elements–such as cakes flying out of diminutive wall portals, top hats sailing off aristocratic heads in incongruous fashion, and mutton legs sitting jauntily on a table with no cloths–also prevail. At least, in days of yore. I didn’t venture inside to see the modern lay of the land, or, for that matter, the tables. Perhaps I should have.

Grafton, Vermont.
